Before the storm
Thank you all for your kind comments and thoughts on my grandfather. He was more like a father to us - very forward in his thinking, a strict disciplinarian, believing in equal rights and status for women and always encouraging everyone to excel academically. It will be hardest on my grandmother - having been with him for 72 years!Oct. 29 2008
In memory of a great life and person - my dearest grandfather.
This was taken on Oct. 22nd - two days before he passed away. My brother had just arrived in India and my grandfather was beside himself with emotion when he realized who it was. My brother and I feel very fortunate to have been able to spend his last days with him.Oct.14 2008
Aarav at 7.5 months. Quite a fun age - very interactive and learning new stuff everyday!
Actually taken a few days ago - haven't had time to shoot the last couple of days...
Thanks, Bianca for your comment on this photo in the gallery :)
Am off to India for a couple of weeks to see my ailing grandfather so will probably not be able to post/comment until I return. Stay warm and safe.Oct. 10 2008
Water drops
Okay, not my best shot, but was playing with the macro lens and thought this was interesting and abstract-ish. I realize now that having a flower below or a clear black b/g would make the shot a lot better.
Thanks all for your comments on my new lens. Actually it is the sigma 105 mm lens - couldn't afford the nikon and I'd heard pretty good things about this lens too, so decided to go for it.
Thanks, John for the heads-up on LordV's work. I so admire his water drop shots and was briefly quite active on the macro forum on dgrin. Hopefully I can create something close to his shots some day :-)Sep. 28 2008

The light from within
I found this flower very hard to photograph. For one, the slightest wind would make the flower sway. And then the orange pollen on the petals was distracting at lower apertures. And, I wanted to capture the inner stamen. cos' I thought it was fascinating. One out of three is not too bad, I guess.August 17 2008
Sister act
A little swamped...should hopefully be able to catch up in the next couple of days...
Thanks everyone for your comments on my 'still-life' images - the lighting set-up is pretty simple - our living room faces west and I have a table under one of the windows and have my white b/g set up there - I get both the top and b/g lit from the light outside which works very well.Feb. 11

Fading tulip
Am trying to learn (and play) more with different types of light. Tried my hand at backlighting, and thought this came out okay (though the bottom of the flower does seem to have overblown highlights). As far as the flower goes - I've decided I have a brown thumb - my flowers never last more than a day and by the time I am ready to shoot, this is pretty much how they end up. I guess I could start a series on the 'faded beauty ' or something...
